Mariner Advancement Capt  is examination preparation software designed for both 3rd Mate and 500 / 1600 Mate / Master Oceans and Near Coastal Licenses.  Our software contains 1273 Rules of the Road questions, 2276 Deck General questions, 944 Navigation General questions and  1865 Deck Safety, Survival Craft and Lifeboatman questions.  All questions have been hand picked from the thousands of USCG Deck Questions to minimize study load yet provide the study material necessary to pass the USCG multiple choice exams.  All USCG Illustrations are included in the software and are attached to each question for easy reference. NEW UPDATE   Our Captain 500/1600 and Third Mate software now includes a Navigation Problems section with 490 questions on Time Tic, Zone time Calc for Sun rise and Sun set, Compass error, Course and Current, Bearing and Distance off a fixed object, Tide Calculation, Tidal current Calculation, ETA, Azimuth, Amplitude, Terestrial, Compass error, Speed by Rpm/Slipage ect....   We also have added a new section for the three Charts used by the Coast Guard for testing, Chesapeake Bay, Long Island Sound, and Block Island Sound.  Each Chart has between 30 to 36 tests.  Most test are around 15 questions but range from 8 to 20.  All chart questions are in sequence.  The training charts can be obtained from www.waypoints.com for $5.00 each.  The chart numbers are...

Also include on the flashdrive in the Resources folder are the 1983 Tidal current tables, the 1983 Tide Tables and two PDF files necessary to answer the chart questions, Chart_header_text.pdf and Questions_with_Tables.pdf.   The latter two files contain boat specific information such as draft, and deviation for answering the chart questions.  Also in the Deck Resources folder are several Naval Training Manuals in PDF format such as, Seaman, Damage Control, Lookout, Quartermaster, and US Navy nautical skills course.

USCG Administered Capt / Mate Exams

The USCG generates an exam  from a question bank consisting of thousands of questions.  Although the question bank is the same for these two licenses the exams differ in the number of questions per test.  See the chart below for specific USCG exam requirements.  Contact USCG to receive an evaluation for testing and information on other requirements for obtaining this Merchant Mariner License
